ICORD.org.uk is a
portal that focuses on issues relating to the sustainable development of
rural communities in parts of the developing world.
It is intended to be
used by NGOs, development agencies, or anyone who is interested in
helping with sustainable overseas development.
You will find
details on the many issues that rural communities face, both natural and
man-made, and what is being done to try and prevent these problems from
happening. Most of the information found on this website has been gathered
from first-hand experience while working in Africa and India.
If
you would like to use any material from this website, then please contact
me first. Please checked back regularly, as I will be updating this website
as and when I become involved in new projects.

Rural communities in parts of the developing world are vulnerable to
social and economic isolation. Some of the many problems facing
communities are:
 |
Poor
access to health and education facilities. |
 |
No
access to clean water. |
 |
Poor
sanitary conditions. |
 |
Poor
diet and malnutrition. |
Often, the communities are heavily dependency on
agriculture and the land for their income. This lack of diversification
means that environmental upsets such as floods, drought and climate change
have a huge impact of their livelihoods and well-being.
